While there’s no instant magic bean or silver bullet, there is a tried and tested approach that, when implemented, will see you increase your productivity and sustain your sales performance for the long term.
It comes down to an ingrained value we each hold and develop from a very young age… ownership.
Allow me to elaborate for you.
When you were young, an outing to the beach meant jumping waves, collecting shells and building an epic sand castle. You had imagined just what your sand castle would look like, then, with your bucket and spade at the ready, you set to work and built your creation.
You were so proud of your sand castle; the awesome moat, the bridge across to the entrance and the seaweed flag at the top of the tower.
It was unique. It was yours. And there was no way that your sibling was allowed near it, let alone to touch it! Because we knew that the first thing they would do was jump on it.
Why? Because they didn’t build it.
What we visualise, build and make a reality, we take pride in and ownership of.
Everyone needs a vision to strive for. It’s our vision that we come back to time and time again, it’s what drives our productivity and keeps us on track. But this is only the case when we’ve played a big part in building it.
It’s this ownership of your journey, desire to reach a goal and joy of succeeding that will keep you accountable to yourself, every step of the way. After all, we are our harshest critics.
So, as Jimmy MacElroy in Blades of Glory aptly said…“If you can dream it, you can do it”. You just need a plan to get you there.
A note from the writer: To my sisters… sorry for smashing your sandcastles
